INTRODUCTION
The aim of the formulary
The main aim of this formulary is to promote safe, evidence-based, cost-effective prescribing.
Limiting the range of medicines included in the formulary:- - Enhances safety through familiarity with the medicines in use in the hospital by all staff involved in the prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines
- Ensures efficient use of NHS resources
- Ensures efficient use of limited storage space both within the hospital pharmacies and on the wards, enhances good stock control and reduces the pharmacy stock holding
There are well-defined processes for adding drugs to and removing drugs from the list and this process is managed by the Trust Medicines Committee.
In line with the Innovation Health and Wealth: Accelerating Adoption and Diffusion in the NHS initiative, the published formulary details those drugs approved for use in line with relevant NICE guidance
Any questions regarding the formulary, please do not hesitate to contact Esther Wong, Lead Integration Pharmacist via Trust email.
